What previous guests had to say about their tour…….

“Excellent puffin tour with Kate, who was knowledgeable and amusing.  She was able to point out flora and fauna of interest, let alone puffins, which we were able to get close to thanks to Kate’s in depth understanding of the local landscape.  Thoroughly recommended.”   Ed, UK

“Had a fantastic time!  Kate was very knowledgeable and helpful.  We were lucky enough to see puffins up close, as well as the numerous razorbills and fulmars, and even skuas hunting!  The binoculars and telescope provided were great, crystal clear and helped us get a great view across the cliffs.  I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone wanting to get a good a good look at the amazing wildlife of the Caithness region.”   Joshua, UK

“Kate was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable and friendly.  She knows the prime spots to look for puffins and we saw quite a few pretty close.  The minivan we travelled in was of a good size and there was space even when full to capacity.  I would highly recommend this tour.”  Robyn, UK

“Had visited North Coast previously and had hoped to see puffins but failed miserably. Went out with Kate for a seals and sea bird tour and saw puffins! Had a brilliant couple of hours spotting birds and seals – would thoroughly recommend a tour with Kate, unless you know where to look for the birds you will never find them!”    Julie, UK

“As a family group we spent the day with Kate who took us to many parts of the North Coast. Kate is so good at not only finding the best locations but at identifying birds as they hurtle by. So we saw everything we would wish for. We would never have found half of them on our own. Kate is also a delightful companion and we really enjoyed her company. All in all a great day out.”    Alex, UK

“If you’re doing the NC500 and want to spend a really great day/half day doing something really interesting (and potentially funny if it’s like our day!), book one of these tours. Our kids had the best time watching seals in their natural environment. I just wish I hadn’t missed the puffins by days – maybe they heard I was on my way north!”   Karen, UK

“This afternoon we went on a tour with Kate. We saw so many things! Puffins, guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and seals! We had a splendid time and can highly recommend this trip to any one.”    Charlotte, The Netherlands

“We went out with Kate last week and had a very informative and enjoyable afternoon. I can only echo previous reviews, Kate is a great guide and knows her stuff. Without Kate, we would not have spotted the seals and we certainly would have missed the brochs. Thanks for a great afternoon and will definitely pick up with Kate again on our next trip – hopefully to help us find puffins.”    Janet, UK

“We were in the Caithness area for a short visit and Kate made sure we saw as much as possible. She is a great guide and we really enjoyed the afternoon with her. She also was very helpful in helping us plan our trip to the area and the surroundings. We were able to see much wildlife – so I guess we have to come back. THANKS, Kate – it was great.”    Bebs, USA

“As the weather was foul, we had an eclectic visit with Kate – an amazing guide. We visited all the main sites, saw harbour and grey seals, and visited Nybster Broch. The minibus was comfortable. In particular, although Kate could have taken 2 more people (with 2 more fares), she insisted that it was more comfortable with 6, and the price was fixed before 2 more people asked to go.”    Mike, UK

Really enjoyable! Kate really knows her stuff. Saw some amazing wildlife and beautiful scenery. Even managed to get to the most northerly point on mainland UK, as well as the world-famous John O’Groats. Well worth it.”    Adam, UK

“We were in Caithness right at the end of the nesting season, so although we really wanted to see puffins we knew the chances were not that good. But local people assured us that if anyone could still find them Kate could – and they were right. We took two separate trips and both times got splendid views, the last time on 28th July when the birds were obviously preparing to leave the breeding sites and go out to sea. Kate definitely knows her subject, and apart from the puffins she showed us seals, gannets, skuas, fulmars, kittiwakes and others on a short trip by minibus from Dunnet. She was also happy to answer questions about the other wildlife we had seen in the area and recommend places to go. The length of the puffin trip varies according to how far you have to go to find them, and you might have to go quite close to a cliff edge, but it is well worth it for the excellent close up views. Don’t forget warm clothing and midge repellent, though.”    Chris, UK

“What a find, such a great experience. We got so close to lots of puffins. Kate was so knowledgeable, but above all so enthusiastic. We have viewed puffins at many locations, but this surpassed all of them. Don’t miss this on your trip.”  Liz, UK

“Do you fancy doing a wildlife tour”? The thought had never crossed my mind until my better half suggested it back in late May. Really glad I did this – Kate is a superb guide who obviously has studied long and hard – so knows what she is talking about – but is also a great people person. Our group consisted of 3 adults and a couple of youngsters – and Kate pitched her tour at the perfect level. She has a very nice minibus she uses to get you to best spots. She gave us a decent pair of binoculars but also had a telescope set up on a tripod so that she to home in on specific animals which she would then go on to explain about. We saw different types of seals (mostly doing not much – just chilling out, basking on the rocks) and more bird species than I remember – we certainly saw Puffins, Razorbills, Gannets and maybe (correct me if I am wrong Kate) Guillemots. We took in the nesting site at Dunnet Head and then later ended the tour in a privately constructed and funded bird sanctuary. The owner has constructed a lake with little islands which the birds seem to love nesting on – while we watched from a nearby hide. My partner and I now have a greater appreciation of the wildlife in this, the most northern region of mainland Britain. This is a must – whether you live nearby or are visiting, perhaps on the new North Coast 500 route. Cannot praise this tour enough!”    David, Germany

“Great half day tour with Kate, who knew the right spots to ensure we saw all the birds. We enjoyed and loved seeing all the different seabirds like the Puffins, Guillemots & Razorbills. We loved the Puffins, everyone does, but it’s not until you see them close-up that you can see how unique they are with their orange legs; and how devoted they were to each other. We also saw seals in the sea and some basking on the beach. We saw Eider ducks with their little chicks. We visited Duncansby sea stacks, Dunnet Head we also stopped at various spots to bird watch with the binoculars provided.”    Sandria, UK

“We were on a coach trip and had a spare day in Thurso. Prior to going we managed to book Kate in advance and promptly on time at 9.00am she arrived. Off we set for four hours with Kate. Her knowledge and understanding of the birds and other wildlife was, to say the least, extremely good.  Many miles and places were visited in this part of north Scotland. Dunnet Head was one particularly interesting place as not only has it a varied bird population (Puffins included) but it is the most northerly point of mainland Britain.  My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and if we are ever in the area again would have no hesitation in asking Kate to do another tour for us.”    Ian, UK

“Puffins! – we were in the right place at the right time, thanks to Kate. We saw Fulmars playing with the wind and Kittiwakes who justified their name.  Kate answered all our questions and thanks to the excellent telescopes we were able to observe the seabirds well.  An entertaining and successful afternoon.  And finally, we were lucky enough to watch an arctic loon – beautiful and rare. Highly recommended!”    Britta, UK

“My mother and I had such an amazing wildlife tour with Kate. As someone with very limited mobility, we weren’t sure whether it would be possible for me to see some of the local wildlife, such as the puffin colonies. Kate managed to put together a perfect morning itinerary for us, which I would highly recommend to anybody who can’t walk far (as well as to those who can)! We saw all sorts of wonderful creatures, including some really special bonding/mating behaviour’s between arctic terns! Puffins, various terns, red-throated and great-northern divers, harbour seals, oystercatchers, eider ducks and many other beautiful animals were about. If you tell Kate what you particularly want to see and what your requirements are, I have no doubt that she will be able to sort something really special for you, as she did with us.”    Sarah, UK

“Kate was such a friendly and knowledgeable guide. She picked us up at Castlehill and took us round a number of bird and seal-watching spots. Even as a Caithness native, many of these locations were new to me, and we learned so much about the varied wildlife of the North coast in an enjoyable and relaxed way. Kate was attentive to the different needs and interests of everyone in our party (including small children) and was great company throughout. We would definitely go again!”    Karen, Germany

“On a trip to the Orkneys we stayed in Thurso and went on this tour. What a great day we had. Our tour guide Kate was fantastic – her knowledge of the local area and wildlife was second to none, the attention to detail (provision of binoculars, telescope for bird watching, refreshments etc) and our comfort was much appreciated. Kate was very friendly, entertaining and informative and we were very relaxed in her company. She was very enthusiastic, considerate and fun to be with. We learned a lot as well. The 7 hours flew by and I cannot recommend this tour enough. It is a day we will never forget.”    Keith, UK

“Kate was great to schedule us in on a list minute trip. She courteously met us at the train station and took us to Dunnet Head to view the seabirds. We saw lots of gulls and auks including the comically enchanting Puffins. This is an easy way to see Puffins with a friendly guide with great binoculars for everyone, and a high quality spotting scope.  Additionally, she dropped us at a terrific cafe in a local museum to spend an hour or so prior to catching the ferry. We very much appreciated this extra little courtesy.”    Norman, USA

“Fantastic time with Kate. She took us to see the Puffins at Dunnet Head which was fab watching them land and burrow.  Then next morning we went out and explored all around the area and saw a wide variety of birds. Great experience, totally recommend.”    Jill, New Zealand

“Kate was great. We only contacted her that day but arranged to go in the evening, as we were advised this would be better than the next morning. She was lovely from when we were picked up, and it was only a short ride to where we hoped to see puffins. Kate was also great at spotting other things (e.g. the owl) and telling us about the wildlife in Scotland and where/when to see things. We were very lucky as it was earlier in the season to see so many puffins coming in, along with lots of other birds on the rocks. It was a great evening and we saw the owl and deer on the way home. Would highly recommend Kate and would defiantly go on more tours if we are back that way. Thank you for being so quick to respond so we had this opportunity.”    Anna, UK

“What a fab morning! Three kids tired out, but happy, and even the weather was on our side. Can’t believe Kate fitted so much in, and we spent plenty of time at each location. Highly recommended.”    Sally, UK
