Puffin Tour – The puffin colonies in the far north are busiest from May to July as this is when the puffins come back to their burrows to breed. From May to July, Puffin Tours start at 4 pm on most days. Tours take approx. 1.5 hours and cost from £25 per person (minimum of two people), with departure location advised on booking. There are several sites in Caithness that are great for up-close puffin watching, so join us on a tour to see these charasmatic little birds.
If 4 pm is too early for you Contact Us to arrange an evening Puffin Tour – evening is a great time for puffin and wildlife watching – you might see owls too!
If booking for one please contact us first to discuss tour availability and pricing.
There will be plenty of time to take photos so don’t forget to bring your camera and binoculars, although we provide binoculars if needed, and a high power Swarovski telescope for extra close-up views of the puffins. And don’t forget your warm and waterproof outdoor clothing – it is best to be prepared for all weather conditions in Caithness.
In addition to seeing puffins on a Puffin Tour, you may also see razorbills, guillemots, fulmars, kittiwakes, skuas, gannets, and seals. But please note that we can never 100% guarantee that we will see any given species on a tour.
Kate promised us puffins and she delivered in spades! Excellent viewing and photographic opportunities (especially on such a clear, sunny day).
